Frequently Asked Questions
The time it takes to process your return depends on the complexity of your tax situation and how quickly you provide all necessary documents. Generally, you can expect the following timelines:
Simple Individual and couple returns: For straightforward returns with minimal deductions or credit, we typically process and file them within 3-5 business days after receiving all required information. However, returns can be completed before this time frame if all documents are readily available.
More complex returns: For returns involving business deductions, or special credit, it may take 7-10 business days to process after receiving all required information. However, returns can be completed before this time frame if all documents are readily available.
Electronic Filing (e-file): If your tax return is e-filed and you opt for direct deposit, refunds are typically processed within 21 days of the IRS accepting your return.
State refund processing times may vary depending on the state.
Paper Filing: If your return is mailed, refunds usually take longer- up to 6-8 weeks.
Errors or Missing Information: Your return may contain errors or incomplete information, causing processing delays.
Identity Verification: The IRS may need additional time to verify your identity or check for fraud. In some cases, you might receive a letter from the IRS requesting more information or asking you to verify your identity before processing your refund.
Special Credits: If you claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Additional Child Tax Credit (CTC), the IRS is required by law to hold your entire refund until mid-to-late February, even if the rest of your return is processed earlier, This delay is meant to allow additional time for fraud prevention and verification.
IRS Backlog: During peak tax season, the IRS may experience delays in processing returns.
You can easily track the status of your federal tax refund using the IRS “Where’s My Refund” tool. Once your return has been filled, we will provide you with all the necessary information to help you track your refund.
Here’s what you should do:
- Read the letter carefully: It will explain why the IRS is contacting you and the steps you need to take.
- Follow the instructions: The letter may request that you verify your identity online, by phone, or by visiting the IRS office.
- Respond promptly: If the letter asks for additional information, submit it as soon as possible to avoid further delays in processing your refund.
- Contact us for Assistance: If you’re unsure how to respond or need help understanding your letter, feel free to email a copy of the letter. We can guide you through the next steps.
